Mike is our horticultural guru, chief snacker and our very own Charley Boorman.
Mike is a Senior Landscape Architect who joined the team in 2014, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise from over 35 years’ experience. With a BA (Hons) in Landscape Design from Manchester Polytechnic as well as a Diploma in Landscape Architecture, Mike has also completed work-based training such as SSSTS (Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme) meaning he’s equally proficient in running landscape projects on the ground.
His excellent interpersonal skills and significant experience of client liaison and project control mean all commissions receive the utmost professionalism and positive results under his guidance. With a passion for horticulture in both rural and urban settings, Mike works closely with plant nurseries in the UK and Europe to specify the best planting stock for our schemes. He also relishes the opportunity to design and implement gardens, creating attractive outdoor spaces to inspire people and help to sell clients’ vision via carefully designed ecological enhancements. One particular favourite was Mike’s iconic design work for the green roof gardens and terraces at the Commonwealth Games’ Athlete’s Village.
Not only can Mike transform a creative vision to a 3-dimensional reality, he is a font of knowledge regarding all things botanical including the latest legislation, specifying the correct top soils or species rich grasses to edible landscapes or diagnosing and solving problems with diseased species. These insights add value for our clients; ensuring projects and proposals are aligned to modern expectations and regulations.
In his spare time, when he’s not snacking or making a brew, Mike enjoys hill walking and archaeology – an avid historian, he takes the time to explore how and why things have come to be. Mike is also a keen motorcyclist, having toured all over the globe, from Europe to the Americas.
