His passion for learning encompasses improving the prospects of others too, as proven in his numerous extra-curricular roles such as representing the industry as a judge at the Landscape Institute inaugural annual awards, and previous roles advising the University of Edinburgh on behalf of the Landscape Institute and as a Studio Tutor for Newcastle University Masters’ students.

With a vast portfolio of design projects, James’ experience spans the globe, including international commissions in China, Abu Dhabi, Singapore and Malaysia. His work included one year working on the technical design of the acclaimed Marina One development – a 350,000m² office space, housing 3,000 residents and a 37,000m² landscape within Singapore’s Marina Bay.

His focus is on the end user and he has an eye for the finer details that make all the difference in distinctive place making. James enjoys creating places for people, which means designing buildable concepts that excite and inspire through the derived benefits for those using it.

The level of detail in James’ work delights the team around him as well as our clients – his design concepts are far from literal, but instead see innovation embedded throughout the story from start to finish.

Going the extra mile is not limited to James’ work alone, it sees him travel all corners of the globe with trips exploring new cultures and places at every opportunity. His wayfarer outlook, experiences and influences definitely materialise in James’ work and drive his passion to design bespoke spaces with meaning and narrative sympathetic to the architectural relationship with the landscape.
