Transforming a complex urban area into an attractive, sustainable living environment is the key driver for the Gresham project. Currently at planning stage, the regeneration of this long derelict, inner city site will see 179 affordable mixed style homes with outdoor space at its heart. Within walking distance of the town centre and university campus, this new community will comprise attractive streetscapes and a mix of private and secure communal gardens and pocket parks.

As selected partners on this long anticipated project, ONE Environments was chosen for our significant experience in housing sector design. Being part of the regeneration of rundown urban areas that have a vision to change is both professionally and socially fulfilling. Our design team embraced the challenge to create a new safer, modern way of living in a community-focused, landscape-led environment.

With reduced density of housing the site is designed to enhance the local ecology through a diverse palette of native plants, increasing bio-diversity, and includes semi-private communal pocket parks and areas of public open space where residents can socialise, grow fruit & vegetables and children can play.

Careful consideration was also given to utilise the latest in sustainable urban drainage solutions, allowing on site surface water to gradually infiltrate back into the wider drainage network. Off street car parking is mitigated throughout the development with extensive hedge and tree planting creating a welcoming green streetscape.

Connecting the many aims of the design team, public liaison officers and input from public consultation; our collaborative approach to the scheme has brought it successfully planning consent.
